Wildcrafting

Follow these simple instructions for making your very own natural wildcrafted perfume recipes.

The base will be the carrier for your scent. You can use alcohol or a carrier oil but a carrier oil mixture is ideal.

Jojoba oil is my favorite, because it has a long shelf life and it tends to absorb very well into the skin, leaving your wonderful scent behind.

Find instructions on how to make your blend into a spray here!

one • decide on a base

As Jojoba is the most expensive carrier oil, I recommend that while you are experimenting you use one of the cheaper, odorless carrier oils such as almond oil. Once you are happy with your experimenting you can then blend using jojoba oil.

Gather your materials. You will need:

  • Measuring spoons

  • Small funnel

  • Small colored bottles

  • Pipettes (unless using orifice reduce bottles)

  • Testing strips or strips of art aper

  • Coffee beans

two • gather materials

I have a list of product recommendations if you would like some suggestions. Email me for some examples of what materials I use for my wildcrafting!

three • blend

I do not use plastic bottles for my blends as the oils will leach the hazardous phthalates from the plastic.) Plastic pipettes can be used for transferring product only, not storage.

It is best to combine the essential oils together and let them “marry” for at least 2 weeks before combining them in the base. You may be surprised at how they transform once they have a chance to linger and infuse together.

Some prefer spray perfumes and alcohol can certainly be used, however, it can be much more problematic and may require quite a bit of filtering to use an alcohol base efficiently.  In addition, alcohol will affect the aroma profiles and will require accommodation, you may also need to play with stronger concentrations.

Base oils that are unscented such as Jojoba and Sweet Almond on the other hand automatically blends with essentials oils over a few days or weeks time.

Important things to note:

  1. Add the essential oils from your chosen recipe one drop at a time. You may need to use a dropper if your essential oil jars do not already have dropper measures or orifice reducers built in.
    • If you are experimenting, use the strips to test the blends compatibility. Put each drop on a separate strip and hold them close together to get the idea of the aromas together.
    • You can cut thin strips of art paper to make strips if you don’t have them.

  2. Use coffee beans between each essential oil to cleanse your pallet for accurate formulating and to avoid overstimulation.

  3. Roll the bottle briskly from side to side in your hands to blend.

  4. Put the lid on tightly and store in a cool, dark place for a minimum of 12 days, rolling from time to time to blend.

  5. Measure your carrier either, oil (jojoba, almond) or alcohol (vodka), using the small funnel, into your bottle. It is best to try to keep a ratio of about 3 to 4 drops of essential oils per tablespoon of base.

Remember, ALWAYS write down every drop you add and wait a few days to see how it will completely settle.  Use patience and anticipate the process.  And, there is nothing worse than coming up with the perfect recipe and not have written it down!!!

See below for some simple ideas for blending your own profile!

This is a regal luxurious blend that everyone loves. You can play with it and add another drop of Sandalwood or maybe you would like to see what more Vanilla does for the aroma. Perhaps throw in a Rose or Ylang Ylang and see what happens. You can make it your own with just a little experimenting.

Keep track of your drops and adjust your base accordingly to accommodate about 3 to 4 drops per tablespoon up to 4 ounces.

Bulk blends will require recipe variations.
